My research, teaching, and consulting center on how to improve listening for better relationships - with friends, family, co-workers, customers, clients, siblings, kids ... heck, even the cashier at the gas station wants to be listened to!  I truly believe in the power of effective listening for living more productive and fulfilling lives. Let me help you discover how to become a Professional Listener!

What does good listening look like?

Well, as my students might say, “That’s a trick question!” The fact is, good listening isn’t a one-size-fits-all model. It’s a complex process that changes with each new situation. Good listening during a lecture looks a lot different from good listening during an argument, and good listening with a teen looks different than good listening with a colleague. I’ve dedicated my professional life to the study and promotion of listening and the vital role it plays in our lives. My goal is to inspire others to cultivate our most used, yet least trained, soft skill. I do this by conducting rigorous research and translating my own and others’ work into actionable insights that can be applied in specific situations and can help you become a Professional Listener.
